This masterclass is for those with a sound understanding of the topic. It will investigate healthy soils by exploring biological, chemical and physical attributes that work together to give a soil its unique characteristics. We will describe some of the things advisors can recommend and farmers can do to build the health of their soil, including the use of organic amendments, balancing fertilisers, optimising the functions of soil carbon, and the use of ground covers and green manures. Hear about the latest research on the impacts of herbicides on the soil and crops, effects of soil amendments and innovations in N fertiliser formulations and application.
We will then explore a soil pit on a Ferrosol (Kraznozem) and put into action some of the theory just discussed. Please wear appropriate clothes and closed in shoes or boots.
