TREE WATER RELATIONS COURSE - YAMBA

HURRY - PLACES ARE STRICTLY LIMITED!

Join internationally acclaimed water relations researcher Theunis Smit and renowned macadamia productivity improvement agronomist Dr. Dan Manson at this special 2-day AMS Tree Water Relations Course.

This in-depth course, developed specifically for Australian macadamia growers, will examine the essential role of water management in macadamia in both dryland and irrigated orchards. Presenters Theunis Smit from South Africa and Dan Manson from Bundaberg have summarised years of research and practical experience for the event, which includes:

  • a half-day orchard tour
  • practical demonstrations
  • informative presentations
  • the opportunity to discuss your orchard’s unique challenges.

Growers will gain an in-depth understanding of:

  • macadamia physiology including interactions between the root biosphere, nutrient usage, essential hormone signal balancing and canopy/flush management
  • the full macadamia phenological cycle and differing responses to environmental conditions as well as how macadamia trees manage the crop
  • the management tools you can use to understand your orchard’s:
    • soil properties, water holding capacity and managing annual rainfall
    • optimum water use, environmental buffering capacity and long term, sustainable production
  • the pros and cons of all orchard monitoring tools - from hi tech sap flow meters to simple moisture probes and of course the ‘grower’s boot’
  • critical irrigation scheduling and the virtues of different irrigation systems as well as matching each orchard’s nutrient program to maximise production.

PLUS - Don't forget to RSVP for the South African Video Presentations when you register for this event

A very special video information evening with our industry development manager Leoni Kojetin and a selection of growers who participated in the recent AMS tour to South Africa will follow the tree water relations orchard tour.

The team will share their insights, show video taken on the tour, and explore some of the key learnings for Australian growers including:-

    • Orchard management operations including canopy management
    • Crop management strategies and innovative farming practices
    • Irrigation advancement and efficiency
    • Nursery practices and new varieties
    • New plantings and increased processing capacity
    • The economics of growing macadamia in South Africa and unique payment system.
It’s the perfect opportunity to grab a bite to eat and a drink at the end of a long day, and chat with growers who participated in the study tour.
