Hort Innovation recently wrote to levy payers to share an important update about the R&D Tax Incentive, which may provide a financial benefit to your macadamia business.
As communicated in late July, Hort Innovation has now received Research Service Provider (RSP) registration from AusIndustry for the 2024–25 financial year.
For levy payers, this means that eligible* R&D projects funded through your industry levy and invested in by Hort Innovation may be claimable as a tax offset under the R&D Tax Incentive program.
To assist levy payers in preparing their R&D Tax Incentive applications, Hort Innovation has developed a set of industry-specific resources. These include project descriptions that outline the key information required for submission to AusIndustry, as well as the percentage of eligible R&D activity that may apply to levy contributions made during the financial year.
To receive the relevant documents for your industry, please complete an Expression of Interest form.
Please note: Eligibility for the R&D Tax Incentive is determined by the definition of R&D under the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 (Cth), which is narrower than the definition used under the Primary Industries Levies and Charges Disbursement Act 2024 (Cth). As a result, not all levy-funded R&D activities will qualify for the tax offset.
Important:
- Applications for the FY25 R&D Tax Incentive must be lodged with AusIndustry by 30 April 2026.
- Applicants must describe the R&D activities undertaken. The summary project description documents are designed to support this requirement.
- Hort Innovation does not provide financial, taxation or legal advice. We recommend seeking independent professional advice to assess your eligibility and individual circumstances.
