The AMS is calling for expressions of interest for a new macadamia growing course being offered through Wollongbar TAFE in 2021.
The course is suitable for both new and experienced growers and will provide a comprehensive guide to current best practice and innovative growing methods.
Overview
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Certificate 3 qualification in Production Horticulture.
The course will include guest speakers and farm visits, highlighting state-of-the-art production and new technologies and will cover the foundations of:
- Orchard establishment
- Optimum growth and production methods
- Soil health
- Pest and diseases
- Crop regulation.
Participants will also complete the following accreditation units:
- Chemical Accreditation Certificate
- Safe Farm Vehicle (Tractors, Side by sides)
- Chainsaw Operation Accreditation.
Attendance
The course will run from 4 February – 25 November 2021, subject to enrolment numbers. Attendance is 1 day/week (36 days total) with half days scheduled for peak season busy times such as harvest.
Enrolment
Enrolment is limited to 20 growers and will open in early January 2021.
Course fees
The maximum cost of the course is $3,000 (and includes the above accreditation units, valued separately at $1,800). Enrolees may be eligible for course fee reductions based on individual circumstances.
