February 2024 MacGroups

The first round of MacGroups for 2024 are scheduled for early to mid-February and you can RSVP now.

The program has been developed based on your feedback from the survey in December about topics you’re interested in and activities that are helpful at MacGroups. Also based on your feedback, all February MacGroups will be held on-farm.

MacGroups are open to all industry participants with morning tea and BBQ lunch provided. RSVP is essential.

FEBRUARY TOPICS INCLUDE:

Post-harvest management and practical ways to retain nut quality

Industry expert Kim Jones will share his specialist post-harvest management knowledge and the practical ways growers can retain nut quality on-farm. This includes a review of on-farm infrastructure and operations and their impact on profitability.

Kim Jones, Director of Cropwatch Independent Laboratories, is an internationally recognised expert specialising in post-harvest technology and quality management for macadamias and other tree nuts. With 28 years’ experience in macadamias and over 40 years in general horticulture, Kim was previously the Macadamia Industry Development Manager guiding the industry’s R&D program and prior to that a NSW DPI research horticulturist. He has extensive experience in macadamia quality management as well as design and operation of on-farm drying systems.

Host grower insights, machinery and equipment

Our host growers will share insights about their farm practices, including an overview of their current nutrition program, a look at their post-harvest setup and other machinery they operate on farm.

Market update

Jacqui Price, Marketing Manager for Australian Macadamias, will give a brief market update followed by a Q&A session. Look out for Jacqui’s detailed video presentation covering both the market update and an overview of recent and upcoming marketing campaigns which will be emailed out to industry the week before MacGroups begin.
