Bundaberg growers are invited to join Dr John Wilkie and the QDAF team to tour phase 1 of the planting systems trial at the Bundaberg Research Facility, following the AMS MacGroup meeting.
Dr John Wilkie will be introducing the new Australian National Tree Crop Intensification in Horticulture project (AS18000) which has the overall long-term goal to increase productivity and profitability of five tree crops grown in Australia, including macadamia, by developing and demonstrating intensive production systems. The new project will see a continuation of the macadamia phase 1 planting systems trials, new phase 2 trials and a demonstration planting using the findings from phase 1.
A return trip by bus will be available from the Bundaberg Multiplex to the research facility. The bus will leave at approximately 1.30pm and return to the multiplex by 3.00pm.
The planting systems trial is in 7-10 year old trees at 8x4, 6x3 and 5x2m spacings. This phase 1 trial will be continuing under the new project which will include assessments of canopy and trunk dimension, total light interception and light distribution, yield and nut quality.
Unfortunately, due to covid restrictions in order to participate in the field walk, you must travel to and from the research facility on the bus.
Please RSVP your interest to participate on the field walk to Bridie Carr on 0436 675 740 or [email protected]
