Come see varieties P, J, R and G for yourself

What do the next generation of Australian macadamia varieties really look like in a commercial orchard, after seven years in the ground?

Australasian Plant Genetics (APG) invites growers and industry to a hands-on farm walk at Stahmann Webster’s Farnsfield orchard on Wednesday 25 February at 3pm. This is a rare opportunity to walk through a mature, commercial planting of the P, J, R and G varieties (informally known as the Beatles) and see how they are performing under real orchard conditions.

These varieties are the first-generation releases from the Australian macadamia breeding program. During the farm walk, growers will be able to see tree structure and canopy characteristics firsthand, and hear directly from orchard manager John Vaughan about yield, kernel recovery and management considerations. Luigi Coco (APG Director and macadamia grower) will also be on hand to provide background on the breeding program and answer questions about the varieties and their potential fit in different orchard systems.
