A $500,000 grant will support population recovery and ongoing resilience of the critically endangered Macadamia jansenii. It is one of 73 threatened native species to benefit from a $24 million funding boost from the Australian Government.
MCT and the Macadamia Species Recovery Team organised a consortium to apply for the funding to protect habitat of the M. jansenii from weeds, fire and disease.
The successful grantee, Burnett Mary Regional Group for Natural Resource Management Ltd was awarded $500,000 over two years to support population recovery and ongoing resilience of the Bulburin Nut (Macadamia jansenii) through threat mitigation and support for on-going establishment of reintroduction sites (read the media release here).
“This is a very welcome investment in conservation of the rarest macadamia, providing much needed funds to support efforts of the local stakeholders who are best placed to manage and monitor protection of M. jansenii and its sub-tropical rainforest habitat,.” said MCT Executive Officer Denise Bond
