MCT1 features at Government House

To mark 70 years of dedicated service by the late Queen Elizabeth II, a tree has been planted in the grounds of Queensland’s Government House.

The new macadamia cultivar MCT1 was chosen, as a symbol of Australia’s native food industry and the importance of conserving the remaining wild macadamias.

The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Tree was planted on 1 November 2022 by the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeanette Young AC PSM, and will grow up with a million-dollar view of Brisbane City.  Her Excellency and Government House staff are keenly awaiting the first nuts from this precocious new cultivar and will be inviting the Macadamia Conservation Trust back regularly to monitor progress and swap recipes.
