QLD TAFE Macadamia Course – Enrolments now open

Enrolments for the Certificate III Production Horticulture (Macadamias) offered through TAFE QLD are NOW OPEN. Please complete your enrolment by 29 March 2021.


Course content

The course is suitable for both new and experienced macadamia growers. Producers, production nursery tradespersons and orchard farmhands will gain a comprehensive understanding of current horticulture best practice and innovative growing methods.


Course delivery/attendance

The course is expected to run from April – December 2021. TBC will depend on the number of units eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), see below.

Some course units will be delivered online, and face-to-face lessons are expected to take place 1-2 consecutive days per month OR bi-monthly.

Dependant on enrolment numbers the course/s will be offered through the Bundaberg and/or Sunshine Coast campuses as well as practical training at suitable farming processing plants.


TO ENROL IN THE COURSE:

  1. Download and complete the ‘Student – Personal Details’ form*
  2. If applicable, download and complete the RPL application (see below)
  3. Return completed forms with required identification and RPL documents to: [email protected] by 29 March 2021.

* All enrolees will need to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI is your individual education number for life and provides an online record of your VET training undertaken in Australia. To obtain your USI, check if you have one or apply for one, please click here.


Course fees, Certificate 3 Guarantee and subsidised training

Under the Certificate 3 Guarantee and Higher Level Skills Programs, the Queensland Government provides a subsidy for this course to eligible enrolees. The full fee for this program is normally $10,515.

Payment/instalment plans are available to spread the cost of the course throughout the year. Eligible enrolees will be required to make a co-contribution with the cost to members being $2,550.00.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is the process of formally recognising the skills and knowledge you have obtained through your working experience. Some enrolees may be eligible to claim RPL which will reduce the course duration. More information regarding the RPL process can be viewed on the TAFE QLD website here.

To be eligible for RPL students must have at least 2 years current industry experience. Along with the ‘Student – Personal Details’ form students wishing to apply for RPL will be required to submit the following:

  1. Credit Transfer Application Form (VET)- only required for the validation of previous academic completion from another training organisation when you are seeking credit transfers.  
  2. Up to date resume (mandatory), that includes two referees with contact numbers
  3. Certified copies of relevant qualifications, certificates, tickets, licences (your local court house or library can provide Justice of the Peace services).  If also able to, please provide any in house training that you may have attended. Your Human Resources Department may be able to assist you with this.
  4. Colour copies of Birth Certificate or Passport or Medicare Card
  5. Colour copy of Driver's Licence (both front and back).
  6. Any concession cards such as Health Care Card or Pension card if applicable.
