WFI and the Australian macadamia industry - building on tradition

For more than 20 years, the Australian Macadamia Society (AMS) has partnered with WFI Insurance to support growers with practical insurance solutions while strengthening the industry as a whole. The partnership has evolved alongside the growth of Australian macadamias, providing both tailored on-farm protection and meaningful financial support for AMS.

Through the partnership, AMS members with an active WFI policy can access a rebate of up to $200 on their AMS membership renewal by nominating AMS as their referral agent. It is a simple way for growers to protect their businesses while reinvesting in industry advocacy, research and marketing.

Local knowledge, personal service

For WFI Northern Rivers Area Manager Ryan Graham, the partnership runs deep. His father, Peter Graham, was instrumental in establishing WFI’s original relationship with macadamia growers in the 1990s.

“Dad worked closely with growers as the industry was emerging and helped build the partnership with AMS so farmers could access local insurance while supporting industry development,” Ryan says.

That local focus remains central to WFI’s approach today. WFI representatives are based across all major macadamia growing regions, ensuring growers have access to people who understand local conditions, risks and farming systems. The WFI team continues to be a regular presence at AMS field days, conferences and on-farm events, building relationships face to face.

“As AMS grew through the 2000s and more growers entered the industry, our involvement grew too,” Ryan says. “Now we’re refreshing the partnership to make sure growers continue to get real value from it.”

Tailored insurance for macadamia growers

WFI’s insurance solutions are shaped through on-farm conversations, not one-size-fits-all policies.

“We walk the farm with growers, identify the specific risks of their operation and help put a plan in place that protects what matters most,” Ryan explains. “If something goes wrong, we are there to coordinate repairs and help get the business back on track as quickly as possible.”

Having local representatives in each growing region means growers are supported by people who understand the realities of macadamia production, from weather and infrastructure risks to machinery, labour and biosecurity considerations.

A tangible benefit for AMS members

Alongside personalised service, the WFI partnership delivers a direct financial benefit to AMS members.

“The membership rebate is a practical way for growers to save money while continuing to support their industry body,” Ryan says. “It’s a win-win.”

Looking ahead, WFI is committed to strengthening its on-ground presence and ongoing engagement with growers. “We will keep showing up at AMS events, visiting farms and supporting local producers. Partnerships like this are built on trust, and WFI is proud to continue that tradition.”

A partnership built to last

The WFI - AMS partnership demonstrates what is possible when industry and business work together. Built on history, strengthened by local relationships and supported by representatives in every growing region, it remains firmly focused on helping Australian macadamia growers protect their farms and thrive into the future.
