Bundaberg March 2021 MacGroup

AMS members and levy payers are invited to the March AMS MacGroups.

Come along to hear important industry updates from AMS CEO Jolyon Burnett and industry development manager Leoni Kojetin including:

  • Water security
  • Reef regulations in QLD
  • Clean Coastal Catchments in NSW
  • Crop protection changes (Agri-fos)
  • Maccelerate industry marketing fund
  • Phase 1 planting systems trial (click here for more)

Leading industry experts will also deliver in-depth presentations on the following key topics:

Botryosphaeria Branch Diebank (Dothriella) Management

Presenter: Dr. Femi Akinsanmi (Associate Professor, University of QLD)

If left unchecked, the disease Botryosphaeria (which is becoming more prevalent in macadamia) can kill trees. Symptoms are first seen in late Spring, becoming more evident by mid to late Summer. Susceptible cultivars are A203 and 849. Dr. Akinsanmi will outline the specific conditions/time when spores are abundant, as well as control measures.

New Grower Toolkit - Orchard Floor Management

Presenter: Dr. Chris Searle (MacAvo Consulting)

The AMS Grower Toolkit - a practical, step-by-step production guide based on macadamia ecophysiology – will be launched at the industry conference AusMac2021 in November. One of its most crucial chapters - Orchard Floor Management – will be unveiled by Dr Chris Searle. Chris will explore the management principles that underpin the ‘working with nature rather than against it’ approach.

Marketing update

Presenter: Jacqui Price (Market development manager)

The marketing presentation will provide an overview of current market conditions, outline how the #DiscoverMacadamias marketing strategy is performing, and share key insights from the recent global consumer research project.

Phase 1 planting systems trial tour
Following the MacGroup, growers are invited to join the QDAF team for a short bus trip to the Bundaberg Research Facility to visit the Phase 1 planting systems trial and introduction to the new project focused on developing and demonstrating intensive production systems.
